I had an amazing time in Prague! I have seen and learned many things about health care and it im-pressed me more than I expected before! The journey by train was very long, but it was worth it!
We visited ‘Palata’, a nursing home for older people who have visual problems. Here we had a possibility to work together with the other nurses. For example I’ve washed someone and have given medicines to the clients. Also I have talked with some of the clients why they are there, also they wanted to know something about the Netherlands. The guide was a translator between me and the clients, because no one there could speak English!
Also I’ve been in a nursing school, where students study to be a nurse in the future. After this school they can go to university if they want to. It was kind of weird, because some teachers didn’t know what we have been doing there. Only at the English lesson we could talk with the teachers, and they where a translator to the students. The other lessons they only spoke Czech, and it’s very difficult for me (and for the rest of the group I think) to understand that language! Most of the students and teachers (except of course the English teachers!) couldn’t speak English to us and were very shy for us, that was a remarkable thing.
I’ve learned so much these three weeks and this is an experience I will never forget! I’m glad that I’ve had the opportunity to go to Prague with my school.
